Matters have been moving on since our last update. We have had a very beneficial meeting with Connétable Simon Crowcroft who is encouraged that residents are getting involved in their parish. As you may be aware, the Ann Court site will shortly be demolished and planning permission has been granted to create a temporary car park with leased spaces whilst the long term future of the site is debated. Simon has welcomed views from the association's members as to what they would like on the site and we hope that you can all take a few minutes to respond to the survey that we have emailed to you.
In addition to our meeting with Simon, the Minister for Transport and Technical Services had also agreed to a meeting and we will discuss with him the contents of our letter of 19 February (a copy of which can be found "Current Projects - Ann Court") as well as the current under utilisation of parking spaces in town. Some of our members have been out and about looking at the number of spaces in car parks and at Pier Road and Sand Street (yes we know Sand Street is short term but - if the spaces aren't being used.....) and on average there's 479 empty spaces just on the top couple of floors!!! We will lose 386 spaces from Gas Place when the Town park goes ahead and the argument is, do we even need a new car park? This will save the tax payer £23.5 million as well as ensuring residents in the town centre are not subjected to more multi-storey car parks.
Senator Cohen is also in the process of appointing a master planner and he has assured us that views of the residents will be taken into account.
We will keep you updated on any further developments but please feel free to contact us should you wish to discuss this or any other issues affecting you.
